Client presentation
Leading automotive manufacturer in the world, at the forefront of industry 4.0, manufactures critical metal components in its own factories for the construction of its vehicles. Our client has 4 automated machining lines for these parts at one of its largest facilities in France.
Quality at the center of concerns.
Despite a high degree of automation for mass production of automotive parts, industrial vision control is often carried out by quality operators. Their subjectivity during manual inspection generates false rejects. Despite the operators' expertise, some visual defects go undetected. With significant production volumes, any error or deviation from the automotive quality standard can have a major impact if not detected quickly. As quality controls are costly and the post-machine inspection process is stringent, the client did not want to add an additional inspection phase before assembly. It was therefore necessary to find a robust solution for inspecting these complex parts. Furthermore, as the geometries of machined metal parts are often complex, single-camera quality control systems are insufficient for these inspections.
The client's objectives
Divide by 2 the pass-through rate generated by manual inspection and detected at the end of machining
Do not slow down the production rate by 5 seconds / piece
Inspect shiny metal part surfaces
Inspect all sides of the parts
Reduce quality control costs and drastic machine exit control procedures
Check multiple defect categories (quality specifications)
The solution: Spark Multi View
To achieve these goals, Scortex has implemented its AI-powered automated quality inspection solution, Spark Multi View, equipped with multiple cameras, and has enabled:
Reducing the burden on quality operators
Inspecting machined metal parts with complex and glossy geometry on all sides
Compliance with demanding quality specifications related to automotive part safety
Real-time access to quality data via the Web Quality Center portal.
Deployment support by a dedicated Customer Success team
The Results
50% of the pass-throughs not detected by operators are now automatically detected by Spark Multi View, in a few seconds.
Reducing the workload of operators so they can focus on other high-value tasks in the factory.
Inspection of 100% of shiny metal parts.
Inspection of all surfaces of the parts using a 4-camera Spark Multi View device and display of complete quality data combining all 4 angles of view at once.
Gradual reduction of the gray area through continuous learning
Maintaining a production rate of 5 seconds/piece
“We realized that operators could not control at the same performance pace as the Scortex Spark system”
