We are proud to announce that Scortex is a technology partner of the consortium set up for COGNITWIN (Cognitive Digital Twin). The Consortium aims to add cognitive elements to the existing process control systems and thus enables their capability to self-organise and offer solutions to unpredictable behaviours.

Within the framework of this system, Scortex will bring its hardware expertise to perform deep learning algorithms on robust and reliable FPGA platform (Field-Programmable Gate Array), enabling powerful edge computing at the heart of the factory.

Cognitwin aims to set a new standard for the design, development and operation of the European industrial manufacturing processes by introducing a platform for virtual component-based architecture. It integrates IoT, Big data, AI, smart sensors, machine learning and communication technologies, all connected to a novel paradigm of self-learning hybrid models with proactive cognitive capabilities. One aspect of the vision is the “cognitive element”, where the process plants can learn from historical data and adapt to changes in the environment while also being able to predict unwanted events in the operations before they happen.

To achieve the objectives of the project, Cognitwin has built a consortium of six process industries, four research groups and four technology partners from seven countries, each of whom will bring their expertise in data analytics and pattern recognition which are going to be at the heart of the COGNITWIN solution platform.

The project, which is financed within the framework of the EU’s Horizon 2020 Programme SPIRE, has an estimated duration of 36 months and is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2019. Its total budget amounts to 8.6 million euros, including a contribution from the EU of around 7 million euros.
